DERIDDER, LA (KPLC) -

A 40-year-old DeRidder man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend.

Beauregard Parish assistant district attorney Richard Morton said Jeremy Alex Bunch Sr. was indicted on the charge Wednesday and pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Thursday.

A pre-trial conference is set for Nov. 7 and the trial will begin Nov. 17, Morton said.

Bunch is accused of killing 40-year-old Mandy Lynn Kirl, whose body was found March 20 in a home on US 190 West, just outside of DeRidder.

The preliminary autopsy report indicated that Kirl was strangled, according to Beauregard Sheriff's Office spokesman Joe Toler.

Sheriff Ricky Moses said Bunch confessed the killing.
