Girl, 4, seriously injured in Waggaman pitbull attack

WAGGAMAN, LA (WVUE) -

A pitbull attack in Waggaman Wednesday left three people injured, including a 4-year-old girl with serious injuries to her arm, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

The attack happened at about 4 p.m. on Sarah Street.

The victim with the most serious injury was a 4-year-old female, who appeared to have sustained broken arm. A 33-year-old woman sustained a dog bite to her leg and a 37-year-old woman sustained a dog bite to her arm. All three victims were taken to University Hospital.

According to witnesses who were in the home at the time of the attack, the 4-year-old opened a bedroom door where the female pitbull and her puppies were located. The dog approached the victims and bit both of the adults. As the adults reached out to grab the child, the dog lunged forward and bit the child on her arm.

The 4-year-old girl's uncle told FOX 8 that the female pitbull attacked and killed another dog about a month ago while it was pregnant.

"She has bit another person because of their dog," said Terry Bladsacker. "She was attacking the dog because I guess she thought the dog was going after her food, and she was also pregnant at the time - close to delivery. She wound up killing the dog and she bit the owner on the hand, so that's the only other incident I know of."

The pitbull gave birth two weeks ago.

Jefferson Parish Animal Control took possession of the 5-year-old pitbull and the puppies.
