(RNN) - Some arrivals and departures have resumed at both of Chicago's major airports Tuesday afternoon. However more than 600 flights are canceled at O'Haire International Airport and 75 at Midway according to CNN.

Earlier in the day, a full-ground stop was issued for both O'Hare and Midway after smoke was detected in a radar facility. CNN reports a faulty motor is to blame. There was no fire.

Workers evacuated from the Elgin FAA Radar Facility at approximately 11:10 a.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.

A full ground stop is still in effect for smaller airports in the area. The effects of delays and cancellations reach across the country, stranding people in various airports in cities across the U.S.

Radar operations have moved to the Chicago Center in Aurora which generally handles traffic at higher altitudes.
