CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

The Corbina Road extension is now complete and opens to motorists on May 12.

The roadway was a multi-year, joint effort by the City of Lake Charles and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury to connect highways 14 and 395.

The project, which began in 2011, included the first roundabout in Calcasieu Parish and the addition of water and sewage utilities along the route.

According the CPPJ, East McNeese St. now extends from Hwy. 14 eastward to Highway 397, and Corbina Road begins at East Prien Lake Road and extends southward to Highway 14.

"I'm extremely excited for the expansion of Corbina Road and the accessibility it now gives people who will be able to get from point A to point B much quicker," says Police Juror Kevin Guidry. "It's been a long time coming but I'm extremely happy in seeing the impact this extension will have on the area."

"The Parish portion of the East McNeese Street/Corbina Road expansion project was funded from the Parish 1.5 cent sales tax," said the CPPJ in a news release.
