Norcross Waffle House pitchfork robber arrested, charged with murder

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Norcross police confirm the man who robbed Waffle House on Buford Highway is now in police custody.

The Sheriff's Office in Knox County, TN, said 49-year-old Jeffery Willard Wooten was arrested Friday.

He was charged in the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Randy Lands earlier that day in a Knox County home.

According to the initial investigation, a woman and her mother pulled into the mother's driveway and were confronted by a man with a gun.

He stole the daughter's vehicle and fled. When the daughter entered the house, she found her brother, Lands, had been shot and killed.

The hunt for Wooten ended around 3:45 p.m. Friday after he was spotted by Loudon County, TN officers traveling westbound on I-40.

Officers attempted to stop him, but he fled, made a U-turn on the interstate, and headed eastbound on I-40. He then crashed the vehicle he was driving and was taken into custody.

Wooten is charged with first degree murder with no bond and two counts of aggravated robbery for a combined bond of $100,000.

He has a criminal history in Knox County that includes resisting, simple possession, armed robbery, burglary, flight/escape, weapon offense, and stolen vehicle.
