SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA (KPLC) -

Hunter Hayes, an Acadiana native, has begun efforts to break a Guinness World Record.

He hopes to play the most concerts in different cities in a 24-hour period, KATC TV-3 reports. According to KATC, Hayes will begin his journey with a performance on ABC's "Good Morning America" on May 9.

The tour is part of an effort to end child hunger. To track Hayes' progress, visit http://www.hunterhayes.com/24hourroadrace.

The current world record is held by the Flaming Lips, who performed eight concerts in a 24-hour period in 2012.

KATC also reports the Hayes will return to Louisiana in two weeks to perform at the Bayou Country Superfest.
