Police: Burke County teacher confessed to having sexual acts with student

BURKE COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -

Burke County High School teacher Ashley Nicole Ashe, 25, is charged with one count of aggravated child molestation, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

According to an incident report, she confessed to school staff that she engaged in sexual activity with a 16-year-old student at the school.

The school's principal, Sam Adkins, notified the sheriff's office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Law enforcement met with Ashe and her husband about the alleged sexual misconduct on Monday, according to the incident report. Ashe turned herself into authorities around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Investigators believe the relationship has been going on for at least a few months.

"It appears that the relationship between Ms. Ashe and the student began in February of this year and ended in May," said Pat Morgan, GBI special agent in charge. "I guess on the day that it was reported to law enforcement."

GBI is investigating the incident. They won't comment on whether the relationship between Ashe and the student was consensual.

One woman who has grandchildren in the Burke County School system said it doesn't matter. She said if Ashe did have a sexual relationship with a student, she's in the wrong.

"You don't want people to steal their innocence," Ruby Deese said. "She's a grown woman. She knows better and she just threw her life away, and messed that kid's life up."

Since the chargers were filed, the Burke County Public School District said Ashe has been placed on administrative leave.

A group of boys are taking their love for baseball off the field and into the backyard. And no, this isn't a scene out of the 1993 classic "The Sandlot." It’s happening right here in Lake Charles.

At the David household, there's something special going on in the backyard.

“One day in the backyard we came out here and decided to start playing around,” said Dylan David, who started a Wiffle ball league with his friends.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST: Scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout this week

    Sunday, May 28 2017 5:25 PM EDT2017-05-28 21:25:05 GMT
Rain likely on Memorial DayRain likely on Memorial Day

Through tonight we will see mostly cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms. At times we could see heavy rainfall. The rain will make its way out by sunrise on Memorial Day. The winds are still blowing out of the south and will continue to blow 5-10 mph overnight. This will keep our temperatures warm. Overnight, we will struggle to get out of the 70s once again. Unfortunately, the rain chances are still high for Memorial Day and through next week.
