PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

A brush fire that burned an estimated 500 acres near Prescott is fully contained as one crew remains on the scene to keep tabs on it.

The Iron Fire was declared at 100 percent containment on Tuesday night, authorities said.

The fire was reported in grassland between Chino Valley and Prescott at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, about a half mile from the Prescott Airport along Highway 89.

Crews from Chino Valley, Prescott, Central Yavapai and the Prescott National Forest joined together to help keep the fire from spreading.

Efforts were hampered by weather conditions.

"Unfortunately the winds have only picked up," said Prescott Fire Department spokesman Wade Ward. "We have sustained winds of 20 mph with gusts of over 40 mph."

Dry conditions also compounded the risk. Ward said no structures were at risk.

Authorities believe the fire was human-caused.

By 6:30 p.m., television helicopter footage showed crews doing mop-up work on a few hot spots after the fire's forward progress was stopped.

By nightfall, some flames were still active on the fire's northeast side.

The fire came less than a year after Prescott lost 19 members of a hotshot crew during a wildfire. It was the worst loss of life for firefighters in the U.S. since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The month of May, on average, is one of the windiest of the year in Phoenix and this week fits right in with that description.

"We're finding gusty conditions on this Tuesday as a dry cold front swings through the state," said CBS 5 News chief meteorologist Chris Dunn.

A Red Flag Warning was in effect for much of Arizona on Tuesday.
