In the aftermath of the Pearl storms, a family is reunited

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

In Pearl, residents of the hardest hit area lived in a trailer park. Officials say 37 trailers were destroyed and many others damaged. At least 15 people, including firefighters and police officers, were transported to area hospitals with injuries.

Residents of the Highlands mobile Home Park are left picking up the pieces. Family photo's were dug out of the rubble.  Jane Black doesn't know where her trailer is. She was left in shock.

"I've been through a lot but I have never been through anything like this, never," said Black.

The worst part is, she could not find her beloved kitten or puppy.

"I went berserk" said Black. "I have a little baby puppy that's missing somewhere. I don't know if I'll ever see him again."

As family members tried to salvage what they could of her belongings, frantic efforts began and then rejoicing.

They found a kitten.

Moments later word came that Black's puppy had been rescued Monday night.

The tornado victim was reunited with Bama, her puppy, at the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.

Cinder blocks mark what is left of trailer homes.

Mark Elliot, his daughter and wife saw the ef3 tornado coming but did not have time to escape. Their trailer was rolled and they survived.

"It felt like the hand of God picked up my house and shook it and set it back down," said Elliot.

Pearl's Mayor described the scene when the first responders got to the hardest hit area of The Highlands.

"If I was in a trailer, I would find somewhere else to go," said Mayor Brad Rogers.
