Lake Charles couple charged with burglary, theft

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles couple has been arrested on charges of burglary and theft, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Joshua J. Baronet, 31, and Alexis N. Rushing, 21, were arrested Monday afternoon.

"A deputy was flagged down by a victim in reference to a burglary in progress on his property on McCown Road in Lake Charles," Myers said Tuesday in a news release. "(The victim) said he observed Baronet and Rushing attempting to steal scrap metal from his property. When the victim confronted the couple they fled on foot."

Myers said Baronet attempted to choke a K9 officer Neo during his capture.

Baronet is facing charges of simple burglary, theft under $500, battery of an officer, marijuana possession and introducing contraband into a penal institution. Rushing is facing charges of simple burglary and theft under $500.

Myers said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.

Bond was pending for Baronet and Rushing.
