School, homes damaged in Lincoln County during tornado

FAYETTEVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Storm cleanup is underway in Lincoln County after two people were killed when an EF-3 tornado swept through the area on Monday night.

Authorities identified the victims as John Prince, 60, and his wife Karen Prince, 44. They lived in a mobile home on Tipton Road.

Sheriff Murray Blackwelder said in a news conference on Tuesday that seven people had minor injuries.

Blackwelder said 25 structures were destroyed and several others were damaged.

South Lincoln Elementary suffered severe damage during the storms. The front of the school was torn off, about three-quarters of the building's roof was ripped off and a school bus was tossed into the building, which was empty at the time of the storms.

Several homes on Price Lane and Howell Hill Road were also destroyed.

Jewel Kooce, 82, says she had six of her family members with her underneath the dining room table in the center of their home when the storms hit.

"Glass was flying everywhere; it was terrible. So sad, but I know I had the Lord with me. If the Lord hadn't been with me, I wouldn't be here today, I know that," Kooce said.

Section 8 applicants will still face difficulties finding low rent housing

    Monday, July 24 2017 8:16 PM EDT2017-07-25 00:16:54 GMT

Part of the reason the waiting list takes for Section 8 Housing takes so long to pare down is because there's a shortage of Section 8 housing, at least in the Lake Charles area. It's because of the economy...and high rents.  Local officials are working to increase the dollars available, but it's still hard for residents to find the housing. "It's harder than Houston and Houston is bigger," said Kristina Broussard,  who lives in public hou...
