PLAIN DEALING, LA (KSLA) -

The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado touched down early Monday morning just west of Plain Dealing.

Bossier Parish deputies say it happened around 3 a.m., leaving a path of damage that began at the dead-end side of Buckshot Road and traveled northeast across Rat Terrier Lane and Highway 537.

One home near Highway 2 in the 100 block of Buckshot Road was heavily damaged when came crashing down into it. A man and two boys were inside the home at the time. No injuries were reported.

"My Channel 12 weather app alert went off," says Judy Blalock, who also lives along Buckshot Road. "I said, 'Its a tornado!' We heard it roaring. Rick and I got up and ran into the bathroom. I raised my hands and started speaking Psalms 91 over us. That's the protection chapter. The Lord just spared us. That's all I can say because it was right there."

That psalm reads, in part, "1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence."

Another family tells KSLA News 12 they hid in a closet as a tree came crashing down through their home. Their 2 pickup trucks were also destroyed.

Deputies say there are several other homes with fallen trees on them, and as many as six more homes are damaged, including at least two homes just west of Plain Dealing on Highway 537.

Sheriff's deputies had work crews from the Bossier Parish Detention Center out early helping clean up trees and debris.

Power was also knocked out for hundreds in Plain Dealing. SWEPCO crews are working to repair lines in the area.
