Minimal damage reported in Mississippi town; Mid-South urged to stay alert

(WMC) - On Sunday night, everything from hail to thunderstorms were spotted in the Mid-South.

Not long after storms rolled through Marks, Mississippi, workers were trying to repair the damage. Along Riverside Road, a tree and a power line were knocked down.

Josh Griffis lives in nearby Batesville, and was brought in to make sure damaged phone lines and power lines are repaired.

"They called me about 7 p.m., called it in as an emergency. Said I needed to get out here and locate this pole so they could get the power back running. There could be some more but we don't know. Just have to wait and see."

No other damage was reported in the town.

The Shelby County Office of Preparedness is actively monitoring the chance for severe weather. Director Bob Nations says they are talking with the National Weather Service and several other offices. They are keeping a close eye on weather and will activate any first responders if need be.

Most importantly, they are asking people to remain vigilant and keep a close eye on the weather as it changes.

One way to monitor the weather 24-7 is with your smartphone and the WMC Action News 5 apps. If you already have our news app, do not forget to add the Stormtrack 5 app for up to the minute updates, radar images, and watches and warning alerts. It is free to install on your Android or iPhone and is also a great tool to have if the power goes out.
