PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

Arizona campers are lighting unapproved fires despite restrictions imposed on state and federal lands.

The U.S. Forest Service said this past weekend, rangers responded to 16 illegal campfires in Coconino County and five abandoned campfires not properly extinguished in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.

There were two small, human-caused fires and five abandoned campfires in the Tonto National Forest and four illegal campfires in Prescott. One of those was not adequately put out, said Forest Service spokeswoman Cathie Schmidlin.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Bureau of Land Management have also implemented a number of fire restrictions in recent days.

State Forester Scott Hunt says Arizona has seen an increase in wildfires in the last few weeks and most have been sparked by people.

Afternoon Storms continue todayAfternoon Storms continue today

For the rest of the day, there will be more storms and showers that pop up in the afternoon. This is the new normal with the heat during the afternoon, and the extra moisture in the air. Not everyone will see rain, but if you are caught under one of these showers, you will likely see some heavy rainfall at times. Temperatures will still be hot today, especially where there is no rain. Highs will be in the lower 90s. Tonight, the rain should come to an end.
