Three charged in Westlake vehicle burglaries

WESTLAKE, LA (KPLC) -

Three Southwest Louisiana residents have been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries in Westlake, authorities said.

Authorities said the suspects may have been responsible for similar incidents in the Moss Bluff area.

Westlake Police Chief Michael Dickerson said Kort Stephen Broussard, 18, Gabrielle Hope Kaufman, 19, and Cedric J. Patrick Jr., 18, were arrested Tuesday morning.

Dickerson said that the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation and learned that the suspects may have also burglarized vehicles in the Moss Bluff area.

"I would like to remind residents that it is important to lock your vehicle doors," Dickerson said. "We don't want to make it easy for a theft to steal your hard-earned belongings."

Broussard, of Moss Bluff, was charged with five counts of simple burglary, criminal trespass, simple criminal damage to property under $500 and illegal possession of burglary tools.

Kaufman, of Moss Bluff, was charged with five counts of simple burglary, criminal trespass and simple criminal damage to property under $500.

Patrick, of Westlake, was charged with five counts of simple burglary and simple criminal damage to property under $500.

Bond was pending for all three.
