A pedestrian in a wheelchair was hit and killed while crossing the street in Madison early Sunday morning.

Police say 57-year-old Robert Michael Connor was struck in the crosswalk by a van heading northbound at the intersection of Gallatin Pike and Berkley Drive.

Police say the driver of the van, Arthur Williams, 71, of Madison, and a witness both stated that the traffic signal at the intersection was green for northbound traffic.

Connor died at the scene. Williams was not injured.

Police say there was no indication of alcohol or drug involvement. They say the preliminary contributing factor to the crash appears to be Connor's failure to obey a traffic control device.
