Sex offender arrested in Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A 52-year-old Lake Charles man has been charged with failure to register and notify as a sex offender or child predator.

According to records from the Calcasieu Correctional Center, Keith Dwayne Istre was arrested Thursday morning at his home.

Istre, who was convicted of aggravated crimes against nature in 1985 and molestation of a juvenile in 1994, remained in jail Friday on a $10,000 bond.

    The fatal shooting of an 18-year-old soldier at Fort Polk is now a criminal investigation. Private Jacob Malcolm of Hedgesville, West Virginia, was fatally shot on April 12 in a residence at the base. Kim Reischling, spokeswoman for the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigation Command, says that the gunshot wound was not self-inflicted.
