LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) -

The Lake Charles City Council made it tougher for people who want to solicit door-to-door.

Working with Calcasieu Parish officials and the Ward 3 Marshal's Office, the City of Lake Charles modified its ordinance to reduce the hours of operation from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

In addition to applying for a permit, those approved to go door-to-door will have to pass a criminal background check and wear a visible photo I.D.

Meanwhile, anyone caught soliciting where a "no solicitors" sticker is posted will be in violation.

City officials said the changes make the law the same as the parish so there is less confusion.
