Man accused of assaulting officers, trying to bribe detectives

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A man is in trouble after allegedly assaulting two police officers and then trying to bribe detectives to stay out of jail.

Police say they stopped Kenneth Penix after they saw him driving drunk in Davidson County.

When they were trying to arrest him, Penix allegedly started fighting officers and elbowed two of them in the face.

Police were eventually able to get Penix under control, and say they found cocaine in one of his pockets when they searched him.

On the way to jail on Tuesday, Penix allegedly offered detectives $500 to take him home.

The assault charge Penix is facing is a misdemeanor.

Bribing a public servant is a felony charge.
