Fence that limited traffic on Uptown street coming down

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Drivers should be allowed to use an Uptown street as a throughway in a matter of days.

On Tuesday, work crews began removing a fence at Newcomb Boulevard and Freret Street that essentially privatized the street.

Last week, the City Planning Commission ended Newcomb residents' efforts to keep the fence. The residents wanted to keep it because it limited traffic in their neighborhood. It was put up in 2006 without the permission of the commission.

City Council members are now considering whether to turn Newcomb into a one-way street.
