Richmond runners set to return to Boston

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Brad King and Stefan Calos are law partners in Richmond. They're also training partners and 2013 saw them run the Boston Marathon together.

Tuesday marks the one-year anniversary of the bombings at the 2013 Boston Marathon. Both King and Calos remember it as a day of extreme emotions. Both put together successful races and were happy with the way they performed. It wasn't until they returned to their hotel after the race when they realized what had occurred and the damage done by the bombings.

King and Calos first had a suspicion something wasn't right as they walked down into the subway to get a train back to their hotel and saw streams of people rushing out of the tunnel. When they emerged onto the street, they saw emergency vehicles racing towards the finish line. They got one of the last taxis out of town and watched the aftermath on their hotel televisions.

The events have served as an inspiration for many runners to return, and that includes the two law partners and training companions. They'll join tens of thousands or runners to make a bold statement that terrorism and bombings will not get in the way of running's most storied race.

They also say that they expect to be part of the two most-memorable Boston Marathons in history. Last year's, which was scarred as an infamous tragedy, and the 2014 event, which they think will be the most celebrated Boston Marathon ever.

While Tuesday is the one-year anniversary of the bombings, the 2014 Boston Marathon is Monday, April 21.
