LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A 21-year-old Lake Charles man has been arrested on charges of first-degree robbery and marijuana possession with intent to distribute, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Joshua L. Hickman was arrested Sunday night.

"At 8 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a convenience store on Senator J. Bennett Johnson Avenue in reference to an armed robbery," Myers said Monday in a news release. "The store clerk said Hickman entered the store brandishing a handgun and demanded money."

Myers said Hickman fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

"The Sheriff's Office conducted an extensive search of the area but was unable to immediately locate Hickman," Myers said. "Approximately five hours later, deputies located Hickman and the car he was driving at his home, and apprehended him without incident."

A plastic bag containing a large amount of marijuana was recovered from Hickman's vehicle, Myers said.

Bond was pending.
