Lafayette, LA (KPLC) -

A 26-year-old Sulphur man wanted in Calcasieu Parish on charges of theft and misrepresentation during booking has been captured in Lafayette.

According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office website, Jacob Lynn Hastings was arrested early Sunday morning on a charge of unauthorized use of a moveable.

Hastings remained in the Lafayette Parish jail Wednesday night. While bond was set at $5,000 for the unauthorized use charge, a hold was placed on Hastings in connection with the Calcasieu Parish charges.

Hastings was arrested in Lake Charles last month after using a stolen casino rewards card to purchase merchandise from casino stores, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said that Hastings, who had no form of identification at the time of his arrest, submitted a false name during booking. He was released a day later after posting a $3,500 bond.

"It was learned after the story was made public and his mugshot was shown on the local media outlets, the man who actually committed the crime was Hastings," Myers said.

Myers said officials at the Calcasieu Correctional Center would conduct an investigation into how Hastings was allowed to book in under false name.

According to records from the CCC, Hastings was also arrested Oct. 18, 2013, on charges of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling and theft over $1,500.
