Texas men facing theft, burglary charges

WESTLAKE, LA (KPLC) -

A Westlake burglary went anything but smooth for two Texas men, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Damon Dwayne Johnson and Tyrone Lapose Dubose, both 21, were arrested around Friday after burglarizing a home in the 2300 block of Miller Avenue in Westlake.

Myers said Johnson got his vehicle stuck in the backyard of the home and called the Sheriff's Office to report it stolen.

"Deputies discovered the back door of the home had been kicked in and several items were stolen," Myers said Monday in a news release. "Deputies also discovered Johnson's SUV was stuck in the backyard of the home. While conducting a search of the area, we received a call from Johnson attempting to report that his SUV was stolen. Deputies responded and apprehended Johnson without further incident."

Myers said Dubose was located and apprehended at a boat launch on Miller Avenue by Westlake Police.

Johnson and Dubose have been charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, simple burglary, simple criminal damage to property $500 to $50,000 and theft over $1,500.

Judge Michael Canaday set Johnson's bond at $300,000 and Dubose's at $125,000.

Monday and Tuesday will be sunny and we should not see any rain.
