OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

Less than a week ago, a woman lost her life when police say an ex-boyfriend shot her in the head before killing himself at her home in Ocean Springs.

Friday evening, family members and friends came together on Front Beach in Ocean Springs to remember Amanda Salas, and comfort those left behind, including Amanda's three teenage children.

"I just can't really stand it, you know. I lost my baby," Amanda's father, Peter Bang, said.

"She was always doing stuff for other people. She was selfless. She was strong. She was a great mom more than anything," Shelby Forehand remembered.

Tonya Tovar is Amanda's niece. She put together the vigil in honor of her aunt. She wanted people to remember Amanda for two things - her bright smile and her big heart.

"Her energy, you know. Her strive to succeed. Even when she was having a bad day, she was always smiling. Even when she was having the worst luck, worst day, she's still smiling. Helping others," Tovar said.

Amanda's boyfriend, Chris Prevost, who was also shot in the incident said Amanda's big heart is what made him fall in love with her.

"Before the incident, I got to see that smile, and we both got to tell each other we loved each other," he said.

He said he made sure to tell her he loved her as much as he could.

"She used to say, 'Babe, why do you tell me you love me so much?' And I'd say, 'I just want you to really feel it. I want you to really know that's how I feel.' And I said, 'You never know when the last time you'll be able to tell somebody this.' So if you have a loved one, tell them you love them as much as possible."

Amanda Salas's funeral will be held Saturday, April 12 at the Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home in Biloxi from 4pm to 6pm.
