DEQUINCY, LA (KPLC) -

One DeQuincy family was hit especially hard when severe storms struck Southwest Louisiana early Friday morning.

A tree near the family's home on Bill Phelps Road crashed into a kennel that housed Cane, their large, white Boxer. The dog perished in the storm.

Kendra Ewing, the niece of the dog's owner, said, "The tree was on the kennel cage. He's underneath the tree in the kennel. He had no chance. The whole kennel's a total loss."

"We're happy all of the humans are okay. It's sad that Cane's gone but, you know, we're all okay, and that's really what matters the most," Ewing added.

The downed tree limbs also damaged vehicle's near the family's home.
