ASHEVILLE, NC (WAVE) - A Louisville native and her fiance, both of whom were severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombing, were married Friday in a dream ceremony they won, and it was streamed live around the world online.

Eastern High School graduate Rebekah Gregory and her fiance Pete DiMartino were selected by theknot.com as recipients of the wedding planning website's second annual dream wedding giveaway. The couple let America vote on every aspect of the wedding -- from the overall theme to the cake, the flowers, and even Rebekah's dress.

The wedding festivities took place Friday at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, and theknot.com streamed live coverage of the event throughout the day.

On April 15, 2013, Rebekah and Pete were at the finish line cheering on Pete's mother as she ran the Boston Marathon. When one of the bomb's exploded, Rebekah was blown over, serving as a human shield to her young son who was with them. She has endured numerous surgeries and fears of losing her leg, which she still faces. Pete suffered serious foot and ankle injuries.

"The couple themselves are so special, when we heard their story and heard what they've gone through we knew we wanted to do something," said Anja Winikka, TheKnot.com.

While Louisville was a destination option it was beat out by the beautiful Biltmore Estate. 110 loved ones were there to see it all.

"She's got family and friends that have driven in from Louisville and other places all across the country," said Winikka. "Over the last year, they've had to go through a lot of obstacles, she's gone through multiple, I mean more than 15 surgeries on her leg," she continued. "She's at risk for amputation."

Pete has undergone surgeries and physical therapy. Experiences they say only brought them closer to this day.

"This is amazing to have everyone that we love here and able to share our wedding and our relationship and our struggles," Rebekah said at the reception.

The couple is ready for a new beginning, believing if they've made it this far they can get through anything.

"I can't tell you what the last year of having everyone with us has meant because we truly have not of gotten through it without you guys," said Rebekah.

The Louisville community has rallied around the couple. Last May, Gregory's friends and family held a benefit to raise money to help pay her medical expenses.
