Affordable Healthcare Act deadline approaching - KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Affordable Healthcare Act deadline approaching

The deadline to sign up for healthcare as part of the Affordable Care Act is tonight at midnight.

Centers across the CSRA were extra busy today as people rushed to fill out their applications.

Center administrators say they've seen a steady flow of people all day and many made appointments ahead of time for help.

Jeff Drake, the executive director at Christ Community Health Center, says it's because people were making sure they had all the details figured out before they signed up.

"I think a lot of people initially didn't know what was going on with it, so it took them a while to get educated about it. and then to be educated about the deadline. Then once the deadline was here everybody just decided they needed to take care of it all at once," he says.

Drake also says if for some reason people started the application and couldn't finish or the site shut down while they were filling it out, they can log back on tomorrow and there will be an option available that will allow them to complete the forms.
