Beauregard Sheriff's Office investigating homicide near DeRidder

The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that happened near DeRidder. According to authorities the victim's boyfriend confessed to the killing to Caddo Parish Sheriff's Officials. Beauregard deputies went to the home and discovered the 40-year-old woman dead inside.

Plus, Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Officials have the funding to build a new jail, but still need the money to help maintain it. KPLC's Haley Rush outlines the tax they're asking voters to support.

Also, officials with the Louisiana Department of Corrections announced on Friday their plan to reopen the Phelps Correctional Center near DeQuincy as a transitional work program for eligible inmates. Tonight, KPLC's Gerron Jordan reports on the impact the Southwest Louisiana Delegation had on the decision.

And, she's hiked trails all around the world… and was even named National Geographic's 2012 Adventurer of the Year. The North Carolina native was in Lake Charles this weekend talking about her travels. KPLC's Monica Grimaldo has her inspiring story.
