Capital construction proposal includes millions for Southwest Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, LA (KPLC) -

Gov. Bobby Jindal on Tuesday announced the capital construction proposal for the next fiscal year, which includes millions in funding for projects in Southwest Louisiana.

The proposal was submitted last week to the Legislature in the form of House Bill 2 and includes several investments in higher education and infrastructure projects.

"These investments will build on our work to improve learning environments, make our roads safer for families, and make Louisiana more attractive to companies who want to expand or invest in our state," Jindal said.

 

Higher Education

• $1.185 million for the Health and Human Performance Education Complex at McNeese State, with an additional $15.31 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $16.5 million.

• $1 million for ADA upgrades campus-wide for McNeese State.

• $1 million for the Shearman Fine Arts Building renovations at McNeese State, with an additional $2.7 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $3.7 million.

• $260,000 for Alpha Hall renovations at McNeese State.

 

Infrastructure Investments

• $2 million for the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge.

• $1 million for the Cove Lane interchange and improvements in Calcasieu Parish.

• $1 million in new Priority 5 funding for the relocation of railroad tracks along Sallier Street in Calcasieu Parish.

• $1 million for infrastructure improvements for economic development in Calcasieu Parish, with an additional $1 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $2 million.

• $825,000 for Crosby, Butler, and Pleasant Hill road repairs in Beauregard Parish.

• $420,000 for bridge repairs in Crowley on Northern Avenue in Acadia Parish.

• $400,000 for land acquisition and rehabilitation of an existing bulkhead for the West Calcasieu Port in Calcasieu Parish.

• $310,000 for an addition to Building #3101 at the Chennault Industrial, with an additional $2.47 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $2.78 million.

• $1.74 million for the replacement of air handlers and chillers at Moss Regional in Calcasieu Parish.
