HACKBERRY, LA (KPLC) -

On Monday, Cameron LNG tapped two companies to construct its liquefied natural gas export facility in Hackberry.

Texas-based CB&I and Japanese company Chiyoda Corporation were awarded a $6 billion contract to engineer, procure and construct the liquefaction and export facilities at Cameron LNG's existing regasification facility.

The project is expected to create 3,000 on-site construction jobs and hundreds of permanent jobs.

Cameron LNG hopes to have the facility up and running by 2019.
