BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards will address the Baton Rouge Press Club Monday to announce whether or not he'll run for Congress.

Edwards denied a report by Bloomberg News last month that said he's definitely entering the race for Louisiana's 6th Congressional District. Congressman Bill Cassidy is vacating that seat to run for U.S. Senate.

The Louisiana News Network quoted sources last week saying Edwards will definitely run and will make that announcement before the Press Club on March 17. The four-time governor used the press club as the location to announce his first run for governor in 1970.

Edwards, 86, spent eight years in federal prison on racketeering charges.

The report by Bloomberg said Edwards told their reporter he has seen private polls showing he would easily qualify for a run-off if he entered the race.

The Press Club meeting will be held the Iberville Room at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, which is located at 102 France St.  Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and the news media are allowed to ask questions during the question-and-answer portion of the program.
