PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A lot of Phoenix police officers attending Monday's funeral were wearing one special police officer pin that was designed by Detective John Hobbs several years ago.

The pin represents all patrol officers in each precinct.

"This is something he had designed, something officers will wear on their uniform. Obviously we want to acknowledge John for his accomplishments in his career and we're acknowledging him here today," Phoenix Police Department spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos said.

The pins are something officers use and wear as a source of pride.

The number four represents the Fourth Precinct wear Hobbs worked.

Thousands gathered on Monday to pay their respects and honor to a man many say was one of the best cops they had even known and even a finer husband and father.

Hobbs was fatally shot on March 3 by a fugitive he and other detectives were attempting to arrest. Another officer was wounded and released from the hospital a few days later.

    Many Sulphur residents were reporting a stench in the air Sunday afternoon. They were smelling gas released from the CITGO refinery. The gas emissions were caused by a unit upset at the site off Highway 108, said CITGO spokeswoman Dana Keel.
