Victim identified in Lafayette fatal crash

Lafayette, LA (KPLC) -

Lafayette Police have identified the victim in a fatal crash that occurred on March 6 at about 11:20 p.m. on Interstate 10 near the Hwy 90 exit in Lafayette.

"The driver of an 18 wheeler was traveling west on I-10 in the outside lane, when he felt an impact to the rear of his trailer," said Cpl. Paul Mouton, Public Information Officer with the Lafayette Police in a news release.

"The driver pulled over to the shoulder to inspect his trailer and discovered the victim's 2012 Honda lodged beneath it," said Mouton.

The victim, 46-year-old as Michael W. Bertoniere of Franklinton, La., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.

    The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office wants to warn those thinking about homecoming pranks. Last week, on Monday CPSO, received two complaints, one on Dietrich Loop and one on Toulouse Drive, both in Lake Charles, in reference to students from a local high school causing damage to the residences.
