Two Houston men were arrested Wednesday afternoon after running a pigeon drop scam, city police said.

Corp. Larry Moss said Richard Overton, 60, and Darion Richardson, 56, were the arrested suspects.

A pigeon drop is a confidence scam where a suspect attempts to get the victim, often called a mark, to give them money with the promise that the victim will receive a greater sum of money in return.

There are many variations of the scam, but all end with the suspect taking the money and the victim left with little to nothing to show for it.

"Deputy Chief Mark Kraus and Sgt. Richard Harrell responded to a call of a pigeon drop at a bank on La. 14," Moss said. "Witnesses found the behavior of a man inside peculiar and called 911."

Harrell said the man in the bank turned out to be the potential victim and the two Houston men were "in possession of evidence necessary for the pigeon drop to occur."
