Krewes of Krewes: Crowds still came out despite cold Fat Tuesday

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

It may have been a cold Fat Tuesday, but that did not stop the good times from rolling in Southwest Louisiana. With the rain out of the way, there was no stopping the Krewe of Krewes Parade.

Despite the rains canceling the Motor Gras Parade, Ryan Street had some faithful Mardi Gras revelers setting up camp earlier in the day.

"We've been out here all day. We've cooked red beans and sausage, fried chicken...  all kind of food! And it's good," said one parade goer.

Whether it's the good food or catching the beads, most everyone agreed the best part about Mardi Gras 2014 was that the rain stopped.

The smaller crowds also made it easier to catch all those Mardi Gras treasures.

"I caught a lot of beads and stuffed animals and candy," said one boy.

Even though she hasn't been to a parade in six years, Kimberly LaFauci hasn't forgotten how to earn her beads.

"You have to dance. You gotta shake your booty. And then you get all kind of stuff... I got this hat thrown to me," said LaFauci.

It may have been Southwest Louisiana's biggest party of the year on a smaller scale, but judging by the roar of the crowds -- it did not disappoint.
