Local family wants their lost dog back from family who adopted it

AVON, OH (WOIO) -

An Avon family has started a petition to get their beloved dog back.

"Why won't they give us our dog back," asked Emma Sandu.

"I really, really love my dog and miss her a lot," said Terri Sandu.

Terri Sandu tells 19 Action News that the family dog, Harley, got loose and ran off in December. The family frantically searched, but were unable to find her.

Through search efforts, the family finally learned that Harley was rescued by the organization Love a Stray. Not knowing Harley had a family, the organization quickly adopted Harley out to a new home on January 8.

Now, Harley's new family doesn't want to return her to the Sandu family.

The Sandu family is desperate to get Harley, their pet for over two years, home. They are encouraging people to write to Love a Stray on their behalf.

"She's a member of our family. We play with her every day she deserves to come home," added Terri Sandu.
