CULVER CITY, CA (POOL/CNN) – Actor Seth Rogen says there's a disconnect between how lawmakers feel about fighting Alzheimer's and how people feel about the disease.

"To me, there was an enormous discrepancy between how people seem to feel about the importance it needed and how they seem to feel about the importance it needed," Rogen said.

This week, Rogen spoke at a Senate hearing in Washington, DC to bring attention to Alzheimer's and how it has affected his wife's family.

Rogen says he was disappointed with the senators who decided not to show up and listen.

"There's 16 to 18 people on that committee, very few of them were actually there, and it wasn't just me talking. Honestly, I can totally understand if they don't want to hear the testimony of a stoner, idiot actor," Rogen said, "but like the other five people who were talking were some of the most educated, and the people who are really on the forefront [of] trying to find a cure for the disease and statisticians that were explaining the financial toll. I actually probably had the least actual impactful thing to say when it came on government ramifications, and they still couldn't be bothered to hang around to hear it."

Rogen's charity fund, Hilarity for Charity, raises money to help families battling Alzheimer's and for research, and in 2012, it raised more than $300,000.

"Honestly, to me the most distressing thing is another senator, who these guys actually knew, was talking about how he had actually been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and the whole point of a plea like that to me would be to get the personal connection with the people who are actually making those decisions, and the fact that they weren't there to hear another senator talk about it was a little upsetting to me," Rogen said.
