Lake Charles couple facing cruelty charge

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles couple has been charged with cruelty to a juvenile after a 16-year-old was hit in the face with a cell phone, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said 43-year-old Bryan David Hollowell and 42-year-old Katherine Lynn Hollowell were arrested Tuesday.

"Deputies discovered Bryan Hollowell threw a cell phone at the victim, striking her in the face, causing severe swelling and bruising," Myers said. "Deputies also discovered Katherine Hollowell was present in the home and failed to report the incident."

Katherine Hollowell was also charged with accessory after the fact.

Bryan Hollowell was released after posting a $25,000 bond while Katherine Hollowell was released on a $5,000 bond.
