Vinton man indicted on rape, sexual battery charges

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A 54-year-old Vinton man was indicted Thursday on two counts of aggravated rape and three counts of sexual battery.

Jose A. Martinez was arrested in December by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

He has been accused of raping three young children, all under 14, on Jan. 1, 2013.

Martinez is being held on a $645,000 bond.

    A Houma man partially laying on railroad tracks just east of the Lake Charles city limits was struck and killed Sunday. The accident happened near where the tracks intersect with La. 3256, according to Kim Myers, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. Myers said that as the train was backing up around 11 p.m. Sunday, the engineer was unable to see Long, who was hit by the back end of the train.
