LSUS' Davis named NAIA Player of the Week

Brandon Davis of LSU Shreveport (La.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Davis was selected based on his performances from Feb. 17 – 23 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.

Davis, a native of Pomona, Calif., became just the 12th player in LSU Shreveport history to score 1,000 career points. More impressive is that the senior guard reached the plateau in just two seasons with the Pilots. This past week, Davis recorded two 20-20 games for his 18th and 19th double-doubles of the season. On Feb. 21 against Langston (Okla.), he scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds in the Pilots 28-point win. The next day against Bacone (Okla.), he again recorded a career-high 20 rebounds, while adding a season-high 33 points. For the week, Davis shot .450 from the field (18-of-40), while averaging 27 points and 20 rebounds per game.

On the year, Davis has scored in double-digits in 24-of-25 games and leads the Pilots in rebounds per game (12.84) and steals (42), while ranking second on the team in points per game (18.80), blocks (9) and assists (76). Davis also ranks second nationally in double-doubles (19), defensive rebounds per game (8.52) and total rebounds per game (12.84) and third nationally in total rebounds (321) and offensive rebounds per game (4.32).
