Final Rule Clarifies ACA Waiting Period Limitations for Group Health Plans

Today, Zane Benefits, the #1 Online Health Benefits Solution, published new information on the 90 day waiting period rule.
According to Zane Benefits website, federal agencies released the final rule on the 90 day waiting period provision of the Affordable Care Act on February 20, 2014. The 90 day waiting period provision mandates that coverage under a group health plan be made available to otherwise eligible employees and their dependents no later than 90 calendar days from an employees eligibility date.
According to Zane Benefits website and the final rule, the 90-day waiting period provision applies to employers of all sizes and all plan types, including grandfathered plans and self-insured plans. The provision takes effect on the first day of the new plan year in 2014.
The federal agencies also released a separate proposed rule on what constitutes a "reasonable and bona fide employment-based orientation period related to meeting a plans eligibility conditions for the 90-day waiting period.
