MULENBERG, KY (WAVE) - For the first time, a Muhlenberg County man is speaking about the house fire that killed nearly his entire family.

Chad Watson and his 11-year-old daughter Kylie are the only survivors of the January 30 fire that killed Watson's wife and eight of their nine children.

During a celebration of life for the family o Sunday, Watson talked about the horrific morning when an electric baseboard heater started the deadly fire.

"That night, running around our neighbors' living room, chasing my daughter as we saw the flesh dripping off our hands, all I could think of is, 'Where else am I going to go?" Watson said. "When I woke up in the hospital, I knew it was bad. I knew what had happened. I remembered everything."

People from surrounding communities and churches turned out to hear Watson's message. He said he started planning the event while he was in the hospital.

Watson said he is blessed to have had healthy, vibrant children, but he is finding peace and comfort through Christ.

He said he wants people to remember his family for the way they lived, not the way they died. Watson also thanked the entire community for their support and love.
