Cold night ahead as system moves away from South Carolina

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC/AP) -
Freezing rain has come to an end in the Lowcountry as we head into the overnight hours with no precipitation expected.

It will be a quiet 24 hours ahead.

Currently, temperatures throughout the Lowcountry are in the mid to upper 30s and low 40s.
Temperatures will be dipping down overnight and into Friday morning into the low 30s and below the freezing mark.

An ice storm warning was canceled earlier in the day for the Lowcountry, but ice covered limbs and trees inland will continue to fall possibly creating more power outages and headaches.

Ice has begun to melt slowly Thursday, as temperatures are expected to only reach the low 40s along the coast under a mostly cloudy sky.

Although skies will continue to clear out Thursday night, temperatures will fall back to near freezing.

Most of Charleston County did not see much in terms of accumulation, but areas of Dorchester, Berkeley and Colleton counties saw a lot of ice causing major damage to trees, power lines, and causing power outages.

Motorists are asked to use caution on bridges and overpasses.
