Overturned 18-wheeler on I-10, Sunrise Pet Shop, capping TOPS

Good Monday morning to you!  Britney Glaser here with a look at what's in store on today's Sunrise:

*An overturned 18-wheeler on I-10 Westbound at the Opelousas Street overpass, west of 171/MLK, has traffic blocked.  Lake Charles police are detouring people to 210.  We'll keep you posted on efforts to move the truck and get traffic flowing normally again.

*With Valentine's Day just a few days away, you might be looking for a perfect gift.  How does a cuddly cat or dog sound?  We'll highlight a sweet pet in need of a home in today's Sunrise Pet Shop segment.

*Some state lawmakers say the TOPS scholarship program is getting too expensive.  Find out why Senator Dan "Blade" Morrish of Jennings is asking that the program face new limitations to keep it around longer.

*A water boil order remains in effect this morning in Oberlin.  We'll tell you what's being done this morning with water samples to try to restore service for people that have dealt with several water inconveniences over the past week.

*There's a lot in store in Sochi today for U.S. Olympians.  Hear the schedule of events and the rundown of who's in the lead with medals after a jam-packed weekend of competitions.

*Meteorologist Ben Terry says a cold front is coming to our area around lunchtime today.  Find out just how cold it will be and what parts of the state will see possible winter weather.

    The road to residency isn’t easy. “I round the morning see my patients,” said first year Lake Charles Memorial Residential Intern Christian LeBlanc. “I look at labs, evaluate, making sure they’re giving the right treatment, making sure we address any concerns they have overnight then we round with our attending that supervises us and making sure we’re doing everything appropriate to support our patient.”

    Two local students honored for 13 years of perfect attendance

    Quite an accomplishment for two high school seniors in Calcasieu Parish. Sherie Broussard and Nicholas Watts are being recognized for 13 years of  perfect attendance.  They will be honored at the June 12 regular school board meeting. Broussard is a graduate of Sam Houston High School with a 3.52 GPA. She plans to attend Sowela Technical Community College and major in Process Technology. Following graduation from Sowela, Broussard plans to continue her education at McNeese ...

    The Arts Council of SWLA will host its ninth annual Arts and Crabs fundraiser event, according to Jody Taylor, project coordinator for the Arts Council. Arts and Crabs, named a “Top 20 Event in the Southeast” for five years in a row by the Southeast Tourism Society, will take place from 5 - 8 p.m. Saturday, August 18 at Burton Coliseum.
