NORTH ALABAMA (WAFF) -

A winter weather advisory is in effect overnight through Noon on Tuesday.

Light snow will initially mix with sleet in some areas. Other areas will see all snow overnight through the late morning hours on Tuesday.  Road conditions will begin to deteriorate in areas where the heavier sleet and snow fall.  Hazardous driving conditions are possible for the morning commute.

Temperatures will be in the upper 20s overnight and only make it into the middle 30s Tuesday afternoon. Snowfall accumulations of ½" to 1" are possible along and north of the Tennessee River with 1-3"  possible to the south of the Tennessee River.  Some areas close to the Tennessee state line may not see any snow at all tonight.

More snow and perhaps a rain and snow mix will be possible late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  More accumulation will be possible with this round as well. And yet another storm system will develop over the Gulf of Mexico and track ENE beginning late Wednesday afternoon.

This storm system could create more problems with the potential for heavier snow Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.  Stay alert to changing weather conditions.  The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Wednesday storm system.  Right now there continues to be a lot of uncertainty on the exact track of this system. This storm could have a much larger impact on travel across North Alabama and southern Tennessee overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.  Stay tuned for more changes - I'm sure there will be more.

Continue to check back frequently with the WAFF 48 Storm Team on-air, online, on our mobile weather apps, and on our social media sites for updates on these winter weather threats.

Section 8 applicants will still face difficulties finding low rent housing

    Monday, July 24 2017 8:16 PM EDT2017-07-25 00:16:54 GMT

Part of the reason the waiting list takes for Section 8 Housing takes so long to pare down is because there's a shortage of Section 8 housing, at least in the Lake Charles area. It's because of the economy...and high rents.  Local officials are working to increase the dollars available, but it's still hard for residents to find the housing. "It's harder than Houston and Houston is bigger," said Kristina Broussard,  who lives in public hou...
