PANOLA COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

New evidence has been uncovered that may have an impact on the Bernie Tiede case.

According to the Panola County Sheriff's Office, this new evidence will be used in a hearing regarding the case. Sheriff Jack Ellet said Thursday morning that Panola County Jail personnel have been instructed to treat Bernie just like any other inmate. He is currently being held in an area by himself.

Tiede, who rose to fame after being featured in the 2011 film "Bernie" starring Jack Black was transferred back to the Panola County Jail Tuesday evening, according to Panola County jail records.

The move is because of a bench warrant, issued by District Judge Charles Dickerson on Friday, requesting Tiede be brought before the 123rd District Court on Wednesday.

"We are not sure how long Mr. Tiede will be in our facility," said Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake.

Tiede was convicted of shooting and killing Marjorie Nugent in November 1996, then hiding her body in a freezer. In 1999, Tiede was sentenced to life in prison for the Nugent's killing.

"It was just a bad situation," Tiede told KLTV7's Melanie Torre in a 2012 interview. "It was a one time thing and it just happened and I just snapped. I just snapped."

Sheriff Lake said the district attorney told him there is "unfinished business" with the case, but wasn't able to elaborate on what that might be.

Last Friday, Tiede filed a motion to to change attorneys. Jodi Callaway Cole will replace Scrappy Holmes as Tiede's new legal counsel.Cole spearheaded a petition back in 2012 aiming to release Bernie from prison, after she found what she believed to be loopholes that changed his case.

In
the 2012 interview, Tiede suggested he would eventually seek a sentence reduction.

"I have to do 30 flat years in here, unless I can get my sentence reduced, which I would like to attempt to do sooner or late," he said.

Tiede is not eligible for parole until 2027. He has been imprisoned at the Texas Department of Corrections Telford Unit in New Boston, about 100 miles north of Carthage.

"I'm okay, I'm alright in here. If I have to spend the rest of my life in here, I'll be okay. I'll be alright," Tiede said in the 2012 interview.
