AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- We are very pleased to welcome Clay Johnston, MD, PhD, as the new Dean of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Johnston is an outstanding leader, clinician and researcher, and his appointment is another critical step toward building one of the preeminent medical schools in the US.

Dr. Johnston's exceptional experience and clear vision will be key to the medical school's future excellence.  This is an opportunity to advance the school's clinical, research and educational capabilities in exciting and innovative ways, and offer the highest level of integrated care to patients and families.  In addition, Dr. Johnston's ability to cultivate relationships will serve to strengthen essential partnerships across schools on the UT campus and beyond.  Leveraging the school's partnerships with Seton Medical Center, Central Health and other University of Texas Medical School campuses, Dr. Johnston will have the unique ability to affect closer care team connections, more efficient research to bedside connections, and stronger care partnerships across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.

To date, there has been tremendous work on multiple fronts to build the foundation of the medical school- its facilities, its accreditation, the unique curriculum and community collaborations.  With Dr. Johnston now at the helm, the bright future of the Dell Medical School is already here.
