HGTV to feature coastal community of Johnson Bayou

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The coastal community of Johnson Bayou will be featured on HGTV's "Beachfront Bargain Hunt" show.

Local realtor Chase White with Keller Williams helps a Broussard, Louisiana family find a secluded getaway on the coastal waters of lower Cameron Parish.

"We filmed the episode back in early November... so I'm anxious and excited to see how it turns out," said White. "I was a bit nervous going into it, but it was a lot of fun and we found the couple a vacation home they will enjoy."

According to White they looked at several homes before making a decision.

"It was everything I do on a normal day to day basis with customers, except a camera crew as following us. It took some getting used to, but we had a good time," said White. "As a realtor, I'm very familiar with these types of shows. However, I never knew how much work goes into it. I was very impressed with the crew and how hard they worked to get all the footage and can't wait to see how they put the clips together."

White wasn't the only one impressed. He said the HGTV crew was surprised at the bargains found on Cameron's Gulf coast.

"Overall the crew was impressed. I don't think they knew what to expect, because most people who aren't from here just think about New Orleans. So they were pleasantly surprised at what someone could get on Cameron's Gulf coast," said White.

When asked if he would do it again -- "I've been approached about possibly doing another episode... so we'll see. I'd like to because I think it is going to help get some good exposure to the Gulf coast community," said White.

White said you may notice some familiar sights in Lake Charles too. To see it for yourself, you can watch Sunday January 19th on HGTV at 7:30 p.m.

One local fraternity made sure some families in Southwest Louisiana had a fully cooked meal to enjoy for Christmas. "We have turkeys and hams, but it's enough food in the box to feed a family of eight," said  Mark Gallashaw, president of Kappa Alpha Psi's Lake Charles Alumni Chapter. Thirty-five boxes of cooked meals are getting ready to be delivered to families across Southwest Louisiana.
