AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn was named the 2013 Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Wednesday in Houston, Auburn announced in a news release.

The award is the coach's fifth national coach of the year award.

The Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year award is selected each year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. It recognizes coaching on and off the field and raises funds to fight heart disease and stroke for the American Heart Association.

Malzahn is the fourth Auburn coach to win the award joining Terry Bowden, Tommy Tuberville and Gene Chizik.

The other finalists for the award were Rice University's David Bailiff, Baylor's Art Briles, Michigan State's Mark Dantonio and Stanford's David Shaw.
